Classes or Private Lessons? So you've made the decision to train your dog. Now do you take group classes or private lessons? Here are some things to help you make up your mind. Group Classes: If your dog will behave himself in a room with eight other dogs then he will most likely behave himself anywhere. The biggest advantage to group classes is the high level of distraction for the dog. It will help him "hold" his training in high stimulus situations. Many dogs behave just fine at home but their training falls apart when they go to a new house or out with the family. Another advantage is cost. Group classes are usually half the price of private lessons. Private Lessons: The biggest advantage to private lessons is the one on one attention you and your dog will receive. They can also be scheduled around your day so, if you have a very busy schedule or your schedule changes from week to week, private lessons may be your only option. Private lessons are also useful if your dog is dog or person aggressive. You will need to get some control over your dog before you put him in a group situation. Ask your instructor which type of classes will best serve your needs.
