Animal Assisted Therapy -Level Two

These classes will help prepare dog/handler teams to work with Occupational, Physical, Recreational and Speech Therapists and Child Life Specialists doing goal oriented, documented Animal Assisted Therapy as well as basic skills for Animal Assisted Crisis Response.

Teams will build further communication and skills to work alongside professionals to meet therapeutic goals.  Sample goals include compliance with medical  procedures, reaching and grasping dexterity, strength building exercises, clarity and volume of speech, visual tracking and ambulation.

Requirements
  • Prior participation in a group obedience class
  • "Therapy Dog" certification through an organization
  • Shaping Behavior Level 1 OR instructor permission

Recommended but not required:
Basic Obedience Levels 1 and 2
Intermediate Levels 1 and 2
Shaping Behavior 2

Rules and Regulations

  • NO DOGS WILL BE PERMITTED ON THE PREMISES WITHOUT A COPY OF CURRENT IMMUNIZATION RECORDS
  • The same handler must handle the dog for the whole set of classes
  • Dogs must have current identification (ID tag) on their collars
  • Read the complete Barking Hills Rules and Regulations
  • Since we close our classes when full, there are no refunds once you have paid for class.

Holiday and Weather Closings

  • Please call (908) 996-9911 two hours before the start of your class to check for weather related closings. If classes have been cancelled, the machine will have a message stating so, otherwise, classes are on schedule.
  • Barking Hills is closed Independence Day weekend (July 4-6), Labor Day Camp: (September 3-6), Columbus Day Camp (Oct 9), Thanksgiving (November 24-28), Winter Holidays (December 24-January 2), Martin Luther King Day (Jan 18) and Memorial Day week (May 21st -23rd - Join us at Camp Barking Hills!)
