Carting

Dogs of any size and any breed can enjoy learning to pull a wagon, sled or cart.  A great skill for any dog who participates in Animal Assisted Therapy, has children at home or just wants to spend "quality time" with their people. A terrific way to spend time with your dog and get chores done!  Collect firewood, the groceries or laundry while interacting with your dog.

A special carting harness must be ordered before the start of class.  Measuring will be done in Lebanon Feb 6- call for an appointment.

PLEASE do not order apparatus (cart, wagon, sled and so on) before starting classes.  We will supply apparatus for class work and help you make your decision on what type is best suited for you and your dog.

Requirements
  • Attend a "measuring party" at the Lebanon training space on Sunday, Saturday, Feb 6th so that participants can order a harness in time for class
  • Prior experience in an obedience class 
  • Veterinary clearance for pulling before the start of class - Dogs under 1 year of age may participate but may not pull to weight

Your dog will need good walking skills - the ability to walk at your side without using your lead

Rules and Regulations

  • NO DOGS WILL BE PERMITTED ON THE PREMISES WITHOUT A COPY OF CURRENT IMMUNIZATION RECORDS
  • The same handler must handle the dog for the whole set of classes
  • Dogs must have current identification (ID tag) on their collars
  • Read the complete Barking Hills Rules and Regulations
  • Since we close our classes when full, there are no refunds once you have paid for class.

Holiday and Weather Closings

  • Please call (908) 996-9911 two hours before the start of your class to check for weather related closings. If classes have been cancelled, the machine will have a message stating so, otherwise, classes are on schedule.
  • Barking Hills is closed Independence Day weekend (July 4-6), Labor Day week: (September 1-6), Columbus Day (Oct 12), Thanksgiving (November 26-29), Winter Holidays (December 24-January 3), Martin Luther King Day (Jan 18) and Memorial Day week (May 21st -26th - Join us at Camp Barking Hills!)
