Treibball
Treibball is a new way to play with your dog!
It's a competitive sport for dogs of all
ages and sizes--it promotes better teamwork and communication between a
dog and his handler. It’s great fun for any energetic dog who
likes to run, needs a job, or any dog who likes to herd and doesn’t have
sheep!
Think herding meets billiards! The goal is to eight balls into the
goal in the correct order within ten minutes.

If you haven’t seen the game in action yet, watch

Treibball YouTube channel!

Treibball began in
Germany to give their energetic dogs some much needed mental and
physical stimulation.
We
think it's a great game--perfect for American dogs and their owners,
too! It's fun for any dog that loves to play chase games, to herd or
just use
their amazing,
problem-solving ability. Competing in Agility is lots of fun but it takes special
equipment,
the
ability to run with your dog and direct him through each obstacle.
Treibball promotes the same kind of teamwork and communication,
but does not put any physical stress on
the handler. You don't need a lot of equipment or even lots of
space.

Introduction to Treibball:
We will use "Shaping" in
these classes. While we don't require you have taken a shaping
class with us, knowledge of shaping either with or without a clicker
will be crucial to your dog's success. Please talk to the
instructor if you have any questions. There is no age requirement
for dogs in this class but some basic obedience commands (come, stay,
sit and down) will be helpful and your dog should be comfortable working
around other dogs. Introduction to Treibball will teach your dog
to "push" the ball, take basic direction, maneuver the ball and go out
and around the group of balls.
Intermediate Treibball:
You will need to have completed
an Introduction to Treibball class, or have instructor permission, before
taking the Intermediate class. The intermediate class is for
started dogs. Your dog will need to know how to push, maneuver the
ball, take basic direction and go out. All dogs taking the
Intermediate Treibball class should have basic obedience skills, be
comfortable working around other dogs, and have reliable off lead
skills.
Please review the requirements below so you may be prepared for the
first class. Your dog should have some basic obedience commands
and be comfortable working around other dogs.
