How does it work?

First, a requesting organization contacts the NCRC.  That organization could be a CISM team, Red Cross, Salvation Army, FEMA or other organizations.

They contact the SITE LEADER.  The Site Leader is a position that rotates among the member organizations.  The Site Leader is responsible for the entire Animal Assisted Crisis Response for the incident.  It is an onsite position.

The SITE LEADER contacts the ORGANIZATION LIAISON(S).  They are a designated person in each member organization.  That person contacts their organization's unit or units as requested by the SITE LEADER and assigns the Group Coordinator.  A unit is defined as one Team Leader and a minimum of two Animal/Handler Teams. The Organization Liaison is an offsite position who helps the Site Leader and Group Coordinator resolve any issues and is the Member Organization's "go to" person if there are any rules that need to be "bent" (ie:  length of a shift).

The GROUP COORDINATOR is one of the Team Leaders designated by the ORGANIZATION LIAISON and he/she goes to the site.  If the Member Organization sends more than two units a separate, non animal handler will be provided to act as GROUP COORDINATOR.  The GROUP COORDINATOR is the Member Organization's onsite representative and works with the SITE LEADER and ORGANIZATION LIAISON.  She/he is responsible for getting and giving information to the Team Leaders.

The TEAM LEADER(s), who are not handling an animal,  arrive onsite and report to their GROUP COORDINATOR while their Animal/Handler Teams arrive.  TEAM LEADERS work with their GROUP COORDINATOR and are responsible for facilitating the safe interactions of their Animal/Handler Teams.

The ANIMAL/HANDLER TEAMS arrive onsite and report to their TEAM LEADER.  They are responsible for the safety of themselves and their animals.  They work with their TEAM LEADER who gives them their assignments and helps them, when necessary, in their interactions.
